A Group of Twelve Japanese Porcelain "American Ship" Dessert Plates and a Similar Barrel-Form Box
19th/20th Century
the covered box decorated in the Chinese Export style with emblazoned eagle and floral devices, possibly late 19th century, bearing red-painted accession number to underside, "87.10"; the set of plates, probably 20th century, bearing red-painted accession number to undersides, "87.9."
Diameter of plates 8 1/4 inches; height of box 6 1/4 x diameter 5 inches.

Condition
plates: with some minor rubbing / wear to gilding along edges, a few with minor knicks or chips to underside rims, one plate with a fleabite along rim, and a few with some small glaze imperfections / firing flaws along rims; covered box: upper rim with a few small chips, underside of lid rim with a couple surface flecks or knicks, interior of vessel with some tea or plant residue
